Project appraisal and evaluation techniques (lecture20)

PROJECT APPRAISAL AND EVALUATION TECHNIQUES

• Project appraisal and evaluation techniques are used to measure the success of a project, program, or portfolio. The process involves gathering data about the project and using an evaluation method that allows evaluators to find performance improvement opportunities. • There are three main types or methods of project evaluation: pre-project evaluation, ongoing evaluation, and post-project evaluation. •

Pre-project evaluation is done when you write your project charter to pitch to the stakeholders.

Ongoing project evaluation is done to make sure your project is proceeding as planned and hitting all of the scheduling and budget milestones you’ve set.

Post-project evaluation is done after the project is completed. •

There are several principles of project evaluation that ensure evaluations are credible and contribute to the overall success of the organization. These principles provide a foundation that guides the evaluation process from start to finish. Project evaluation principles include seeking to improve performance, contributing to organizational learning, sharing project participation, focusing on results, building relationships with stakeholders, using credible processes, conducting evaluations ethically, and evaluating continually. • There are different methods or techniques for project appraisal such as economic analysis, financial analysis, technical analysis, market analysis, managerial analysis, and social analysis.
